Curacao 2026

We had our Caribbean vacation in 2026 in March - Curacao.
We arrived late because our flight was delayed almost 2 hours in Toronto because of the weather.
But the Sunscape resort welcomed us with that kind of tropical feeling we so much wanted.

The first thing we wanted to check was the water, where the advertising said was calm and clean waters with lot of exotic fishes. And that is true, a stone dam, about 40-50 meters from the beach cuts the ocean waves, and inside is like a crystal-clear (almost) lake, the water being refreshed by what the dam allows to pass over it and at the two sides.

On that dam, there are all day long some noisy birds. But they are disciplined… no noise overnight.

Both my wife and I know what a good snorkeling is, because in many of our trip we did it, and the place at Sunscape did not disappoint, it was really good.
Now, I do not have an underwater camera. With water glasses you can see fishes like in an aquarium, and if you give them food, they come quickly from all over, eventually biting you (not dangerously, barely feel it, but they do it). I saw the resort rules, and giving food to fishes is not forbidden, at least it is not in the list of rules. And I think the fishes are so used of getting food, that they followed us when snorkeling, hoping to get something.
Just to have a picture, I threw them food from above, but the water movement and the reflection of the sun make it unclear.

The resort also offers, for free, on that “interior” lake, kayaking. Limitation: one hour a day…

The resort is all included. It has a buffet (breakfast, lunch and dinner), an Italian restaurant (dinner), as well as one restaurant serving mostly fish (dinner), first come first served.
For the Japanese restaurant (dinner) you need reservation.

There is also a restaurant on the beach - breakfast for Sun Club members (we also paid for it). That was good since the only other option in the morning was the buffet where you have to wait in line to get a place. That restaurant on the beach is open for everybody for lunch and dinner.

One of us had to get up early in the morning (actually that was me) to get a good spot in the shadow.
A lot of people do so, but they ignore the rules, where you have to keep the place only as long as you use it, so all visitors could have it along the day, but most do not care, and leave a book or some towel there, all day long.

Some go one step further, and if they need 2 places, they occupy 4, to move as the shadow goes.

Two mornings we visited Willemstad, the capital city of Curacao. Just across the street from the resort, it was a minibus station with cars passing every 15 min or so. It is $2 US per person, and about 20 min to downtown.
The old town is nice with shops and magazines, intersecting roughly at 90-degree angles.

There is also a historic site, a kind of fortification, that is a UNESCO heritage site.

Inside are shops and restaurants.

Sometimes bands are playing music. Because I like dancing, I could not stop myself dancing. Because my site does not allow videos, if you want to see me dancing, you can see me on my youtube channel.

The resort had entertainment in the evenings, generally from 7 PM to 10:30 PM: music (sometimes bands or solo performers, or on tape) where tourists were invited to dance - mostly the visitors preferred dancing in line, rather than pairs.

That was something that disturbed us, though. Our building was close to Mambo beach, maybe the most famous in Curacao. A few days a week, there are parties there, with the music insanely loud, until 1 AM in the morning, sometimes later.

As a conclusion, we liked there, and we eventually will go again, but chose another building in the resort.
