Pembroke 2024
Earlier this month, in October 2024, we had some problems to solve in Montreal. As usual, we planned to stop wherever something new or exciting nature offers.
The first stop was in a park near Kingston. The birds were very friendly, and we spotted two kids offering grains to them from their hands.

After solving our problems in Montreal, we headed for Pembroke. I forgot the name of the national park we stopped at, but we enjoyed it. Of course, it was a lake there. I think there is no provincial or national park in Canada without at least one lake, and all are worth visiting.
The temperature was 12 Celsius, and the water as well, but it did not seem too cold for me to walk in it along the shore.
My wife preferred to watch the river flowing into the lake from a deck where visitors could launch boats.
We stopped at Hush Lodge for two days on our way back to Toronto. From the outside, it seemed an old building, not attractive, but inside was warm, big room and very clean. In our email, we received the access code to enter the building and the room; there was no one around. We could serve ourselves with life jackets, paddles, and a canoe to enjoy some time on the lake. The lake was all ours.

Next stop was on Long Lake Road, where we climbed to an observation point.
Our last stop was Kamaniskeg lake where the Mayflower boat tragedy happened in 1912. From Wikipadia:
“[The boat] was traveling from Barry's Bay to Combermere to deliver the body of John Brown to his brother-in-law (a local Combermere city councillor). On that night, it sank on Kamaniskeg Lake in a winter storm, losing nine lives. Three managed to survive by staying afloat by clinging onto the casket that carried John Brown. Eventually they reached a small island called Gull Island (now known as Parcher Island) and built a fire using the debris and wreckage that had washed ashore. It was reported worldwide at the time by Ripley's Believe it or Not.”
People are proud of their neighboring nature, and a local offered some land to observe the lake.
