God and the nuclear button

Those reading my blogs know that I do not believe in a God as described in the Holy Scriptures, but I do not deny that a God-like deity might exist. I simply do not know.

First scenario is that God exists. Will He stop a nuclear disaster? Or any similar calamity like a virus or bacteria able to wipe out humankind? A chemical warfare?

Reading the Bible, the answer is NO. First, if humans acquired this knowledge, building weapons to destroy their own kind, it is with God’s involvement; nothing happens without God’s knowledge and if He wanted to stop the creation of weapons of mass destruction He could do so. Secondly, apocalypse in the Bible describes this world destruction by fire, pretty close to a nuclear Armageddon… So, the Bible teaches us that God prepared everything for such a dramatic end, but it is only He who knows the time; the Holly Scriptures mention that not even the son (Christ) knows the timing, but the father.

What if God does not exist? Will a nuclear disaster happen? YES. Because the possibility exists, someone close to the nuclear button will press it, just because he/she can. This is human nature. And here is a story…

Eight hundred years ago Genghis Khan, the Mongol, starting from nothing built the biggest empire ever existed before him; and it was not pretty, terror and killings by millions were the tactics, the whole known world was living under terror. One day, an adviser asked him: “Great Khan, you have more than any human ever had, why do you continue conquering?”   The answer from Genghis was simple: “Because I can.”

So, do we stand a chance? Yes, if an alien God or an alien civilization will jump to help. And if you would like to be entertained by the idea, you may read my sci-fi/fantasy books
